The Advanced Lutherie class builds on the skills of the Introduction, and extends them.
The aim of this class is to furnish the student with all the skills required to build dulcimers professionally.
In this class, the student learns how to
- Carve the traditional scroll peghead and tailpiece.
- Using the scraper plane to bring tonewoods to thickness
- Creating the fretboard and profiling it for proper playing action
- Using miniature routers.
The Advanced Lutherie class covers much more material than the Introduction, and the work is more demanding. A Standard Hourglass dulcimer is built by the student. Only those with some knowledge of lutherie should enroll in this course.
Testimonial from an Advanced Class Student
THANKS for the gifts that you shared with me during my recent training period. My expectations were high; even very high. Well, I want you to know that not only did you meet my expectations, you "blew them away!" It has been several weeks since I returned home and I'm still "living off the fruits" of our time together. Your craftsmanship was anticipated and expected. Your graciousness, love of life, and passion for educating others was awesome! You are indeed a Master Craftsman, not just of lutherie, but of life itself. I'm not sure that I will ever be able to match your handwork, but I know that you have given me every bit of knowledge that would allow me to do so. Again, thank you for being who you are. God bless you in your journey. Please keep in touch.
