Materials

We
search for the very best materials for Bear Meadow Appalachian
Dulcimers. The fact is that materials are a small part of the
cost of the instrument, so it would be unwise to skimp here. And
starting with the good stuff is an influence in the right direction.
Our basic materials
are:
Wood Currently we are using
Granadillo (sometime known as Mexican Cocobolo)
Glue. Cyano-acrylic,
CA, or "crazy" glue
Finishes. Tung Oil Varnish, Shellac,
Wax
bead
cord.
Griffin's Polyamid #8
Tassel
cord.
M&J, NYC
Tassels. M&J, NYC
Brass
fittings.
From brass rod and wire
Jade rings. These
are 1" and 1/2" jade "donut" rings. Available
at Chinese markets or on the internet.
Horsehair. Currently we are using
violin bow hair.
Silk. Currently we are using
a gold/red silk. We are hoping to find a larger stock of this
to replace it as the supply dwindles.
