The zircote fingerboard is an option that some musicians find useful. Walnut, the standard Bear Meadow fretboard material, can be too lively and percussive in the hands of some players.

Zircote is a sustainable yield South American wood which rivals ebony for hardness and durability. The application of a zircote fingerboard over the walnut fretboard will allow hammer-ons to be done with much less percussive effect, and will also give much improved wear, for those who tend to wear fretboards excessively.
